J.N. "Ding" Darling NWR!   



Anglers in the fourth annual "Ding" Darling & Doc Ford's Tarpon Tournament chalked up 25 qualifying catches on May 9, 2015.  Team came in first place as the first team to bring four tarpon to for a leader touch before release. The team won $11,418.75.  Team Organized Chaos also called in four tarpon for a second-place purse of $6,343.75, which it donated a portion of the winnings back to DDWS. Team Doc Ford's took third place and $4,806.25. In fourth place, Team 'Tween Waters Marina won $2,537.50.

The team of European journalists, Team Fishing & Chips, won $1,268.75, which team members donated back to supp ort the Society and ultimately the Refuge. In all, the tournament awarded $25,375  in prizes- 100% of the fees paid by 48 participating teams. The tournament netted more than $50,000 from sponsorships, donations, and silent auction to benefit the Refuge. Stay tuned for more news and pictures of the exciting tournament.

Tarpon are just different than any other fish that swims in the ocean.  Brute strength, acrobatic jumps and the difficulty factor to land one, all combine to put an angler through a roller coaster of emotions.  Tarpon battles consist of highs and lows  . . hook into one during a tournament and this is only multiplied.    CONTINUED
